1. Who we are (data controller)
YoungunsTube is operated by Edward Joseph Wilkinson, a sole operator based in the United Kingdom at [CONTROLLER UK ADDRESS]. We are the "data controller" responsible for your personal data.

- ICO registration number: [ICO REGISTRATION NUMBER]
If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, please contact us at the email address above.
2. What YoungunsTube does
YoungunsTube is a parental-control app that gives parents and guardians a safer, more controlled way for their children to watch public YouTube content. A parent creates an account, sets up one or more child profiles, and controls what each child can access — including which channels are available, keyword and content restrictions, whether search and Shorts are allowed, and viewing times and limits. Parental controls are protected by a PIN that the parent sets.
Children use their profile within the limits the parent has set. Children do not have their own accounts and do not sign in with Google or any other service. All child profiles exist only within the parent's account.
The app is currently free during early development. We intend to introduce a paid subscription in future; if we do, this policy will be updated to describe any payment processing before that change takes effect.
3. The personal data we collect
We collect only what we need to run the service:
Parent account data (via Google Sign-In / OAuth):
- Your name, email address, and Google account identifier, provided by Google when you choose to sign in. We use this only to create and authenticate your account — it is not used to access your private YouTube data.
- The PIN you set to protect parental controls (stored securely).
Child profile data (created and controlled by the parent):
- A profile name or nickname you choose for each child.
- The settings and restrictions you configure for that profile (allowed/blocked channels, blacklisted keywords, content restrictions, Shorts on/off, search on/off, viewing schedules and time limits).
- An in-app list of channels the profile follows, and in-app records of viewing activity used to enforce time limits and improve the child's experience within the app.
Technical data:
- Basic information necessary to keep you signed in and to operate the app securely (for example, session tokens).
We do not collect more than we need, and we do not build advertising or behavioural profiles. We do not use analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or third-party tracking tools in the app.
4. YouTube API Services
YoungunsTube uses YouTube API Services to show public YouTube content (such as search results, channel information, and video listings).
By using YoungunsTube, you are also agreeing to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service.
Any data processed by Google/YouTube through these services is handled in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy.
Important points about our use of YouTube API Services:
- We access public data only. Our calls to YouTube are limited to reading public information — searching, and listing public channels and videos for viewing. We do not read, collect, or store your private YouTube account data, watch history, or subscriptions from your YouTube account.
- We take no actions on your YouTube account. We do not upload, comment, rate, subscribe, or create or change playlists on YouTube. Any "subscriptions" or follow-lists inside YoungunsTube are stored only within our app and are not written to any YouTube account.
- You can revoke our access at any time through your Google security settings.
5. Children's data and our audience
YoungunsTube is designed to be used by children — typically primary and secondary school age — under the control of a parent or guardian. Because of this:
- The parent or guardian is the account holder and is responsible for setting up profiles, configuring restrictions, and supervising their child's use of the app.
- By creating a child profile, the parent consents to us processing that child's profile data for the purpose of providing the service.
- We keep children's data to the minimum needed to run the app, apply the highest privacy settings by default, and do not use it for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond delivering the controlled viewing experience the parent has set up.
We are notifying Google that YoungunsTube is a child-directed service, as required by YouTube's Developer Policies.
If you believe a child's data has been provided to us without the appropriate parental consent, please contact us at hello@youngunstube.com and we will delete it.
6. How we use your data and our legal bases
Under the UK GDPR we rely on the following legal bases:
| What we do | Why | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Create and authenticate your account | To let you securely sign in and use the app | Performance of a contract |
| Store and apply your child profiles and settings | To deliver the parental-control features you set up | Performance of a contract |
| Process a child profile's data | To provide the controlled viewing experience | Consent (given by the parent) |
| Keep the app secure and working | To protect accounts and prevent misuse | Legitimate interests |
| Contact you about your account or important changes | To keep you informed | Legitimate interests / legal obligation |
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
8. Where your data is stored (international transfers)
Your data is stored on infrastructure provided by our hosting provider (see Section 7) in [HOSTING REGION]-based datacentres. If any of your data is stored or processed outside the United Kingdom, we ensure it is protected by an appropriate safeguard recognised under UK data protection law (such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses). You can contact us for more information about these safeguards.
9. How long we keep your data (retention)
- We keep your account and profile data for as long as your account is active.
- If your account is inactive for 12 months, we will delete your account and associated data.
- If you delete your account, we remove your data (see Section 10). We may retain a minimal record where we are legally required to do so.
These retention periods are our current defaults and may be revised before public launch.
10. Your rights and how to delete your data
Deleting your account: You can request deletion at any time from your account dashboard within the app. This sends a deletion request to us, and your account and associated data are then removed.
Under UK data protection law, you also have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erase your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Data portability — receive your data in a usable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@youngunstube.com. We will respond within one month.
Complaints: If you have a concern about how we handle your data, we would like the chance to resolve it — please contact us first. You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or by calling 0303 123 1113.
11. How we protect your data
We use reasonable and appropriate technical and organisational measures to keep your data secure, including secure authentication, restricted access, and encryption in transit. Your parental-control PIN is stored securely. No system can be guaranteed 100% secure, but we take the protection of your and your children's data seriously.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes — for example, if we introduce paid subscriptions or change how we use data — we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, ask you to review and re-accept the policy before you continue using the app.
